The Story Behind Titi-Tata Tarot Art Collection
The Sweet Whimsy That Started It All
I’ve always found comfort in small things like a quiet morning, a favorite dessert, a moment that feels like magic. That’s how this little collection came to life.
Titi-Tata Tarot is just six cards, drawn slowly and intuitively, without a plan, just following what felt good. I didn’t set out to make a full deck. I just wanted to create something gentle and joyful, something that blended my love of tarot with the sweetness of everyday life.
Each card felt like a tiny spell of comfort, and together, they became a story I didn’t know I was telling: about trust, softness, and the quiet magic that shows up when you listen to your heart.
The style came together in its own time — storybook scenes, gentle colors, and the playful addition of desserts and comfort foods. I often didn’t know what I’d draw next; I just listened to what felt good and let the images appear.
Each card was chosen intuitively, not from a list, but from whatever called to me in the moment. The first was The Fool, not because it’s the first in the major arcana, but because it resonated most with where I was in life. From there, I moved through The Sun, The Empress, The Lovers, The Star, and finally, the Nine of Pentacles.
It wasn’t until I finished The Star that I realized I was unfolding my own journey, almost like giving myself a gentle reading through art. It felt personal, and honestly, a little bit magical.
That’s why the Nine of Pentacles became the final card, chosen with intention. It’s a symbol of fulfillment and quiet success, a reminder that I’m moving toward something meaningful. For me, this collection is a soft nudge to surrender, trust, and keep following the path that feels true.
The Ingredients of the Collection
The name “Titi-Tata” is a little celebration in itself — a playful sound, like dessert spoons clinking or a cheerful melody. It’s my way of honoring life’s sweet, simple pleasures and inviting others to find joy in everyday moments.
Each card in this collection blends classic tarot symbolism with a dessert or treat that felt “just right” in the moment. Nothing was forced or overly planned; it all came from intuition, comfort, and letting inspiration lead the way.
The Fool
In classic tarot, The Fool is the joyful wanderer, about to step into the unknown with innocence and a sense of adventure. There’s usually a companion animal, a bright sky, and distant mountains: symbols of hope, new beginnings, and the courage to trust the journey. In my version, The Fool balances atop layers of strawberry cake, with a playful cat by her side. The sweet dessert becomes the landscape for new adventures, while the stars and blue mountains in the distance keep that feeling of open possibility. It’s a card about starting fresh, being willing to leap, and embracing every new chapter with a sense of wonder (and maybe a little sweetness, too).
The Empress
The Empress is a symbol of nurturing, abundance, and the creative power of caring for what you love. She’s often surrounded by nature, fruit, and signs of growth and comfort. Here, she sits serenely atop a stack of macarons and fresh raspberries, her throne transformed into a scene of warmth and sweetness. Instead of a traditional scepter, she holds a dessert spoon, inviting us to savor the beauty in small, loving moments. The soft patterns and gentle colors offer a sense of peace and encourage us to bloom by tending to what truly matters, whether that’s a project, a relationship, or our own well-being.
The Lovers
In classic tarot, The Lovers card celebrates connection, heartfelt choice, and the beauty of union. Traditionally, it shows a couple beneath a radiant sun or angel, symbolizing harmony and blessing. In my version, the essence remains: two figures in a tender, Klimt-inspired embrace, sharing a quiet moment of closeness.
The glowing lemon in the background is both a radiant sun and a gentle halo, adding warmth and light: a reminder that love, in all its forms, brings sweetness and sometimes a little sharpness, too. The couple stands atop a cinnamon bun, grounding the scene in comfort and cozy intimacy.
While the scene is tender and romantic, The Lovers isn’t only about romance. It’s also about the many ways we choose love: self-love, friendship, meaningful connections, and the moments when we open our hearts to what truly matters. The sparkling lights floating around them add a touch of magic, hinting at the blessings that surround us whenever we say yes to love, in any form.
The Star
The Star is one of the most comforting and hopeful cards in tarot. Traditionally, it shows a figure pouring water under a sky filled with shining stars: a symbol of renewal, inspiration, and gentle healing after hard times. In my version, the gentle figure stands atop a bowl of Japanese shaved ice dessert (kakigori), crowned with muskmelon and a swirl of green syrup: a scene inspired by the refreshing desserts of summer in Japan. The act of pouring and the soft glow of the stars above invite us to trust that new light always returns, little by little, after hard times. The dreamy landscape is meant to offer reassurance that you are held, and that new hope will always find its way in.
The Sun
The Sun is a card of pure joy, clarity, and radiant energy. Traditionally, it shines bright in tarot, often with a child, sunflowers, or a clear sky: all symbols of happiness, confidence, and the return of light after darkness. In my version, the scene is playful and golden: the character stands on a warm waffle, with a sunny-side-up egg forming not only the sun behind her, but also blending into her hair — almost as if the light is part of her. This creates a gentle illusion that joy and brightness aren’t just outside influences, but something that lives inside you and radiates outward. The blue sky, golden yolk, and the feeling of a sunny breakfast all celebrate the idea that happiness can be both simple and profound. The Sun invites you to recognize your own inner light and let it shine freely, just as you are.
Nine of Pentacles
The Nine of Pentacles is a card of abundance, self-worth, and quietly enjoying the rewards of your own efforts. In classic tarot, it often shows a woman in a lush garden, surrounded by coins and a sense of ease. In my version, the figure sits peacefully on the rim of a beautifully patterned teacup, with nine golden pentacles floating gently in a warm tea. The cup rests atop a bright red apple: a symbol of abundance, wholeness, and the simple pleasure of savoring what you’ve grown for yourself. The floral patterns on the cup celebrate beauty, comfort, and the pleasure of tending to your own little world. This card is a gentle reminder to appreciate your own growth, savor life’s small joys, and trust in the richness you’ve cultivated — inside and out.
